Margaret Tomlinson

Margaret Eugenia (Marge) Tomlinson of Fayetteville, TN passed away peacefully at Lincoln/Donalson Care Center on Tuesday December 31, 2019. One of three daughters born to the late Vernon Charles Taylor and Wanda Mildred Wallace (Ashcraft), Marge entered this world on August 14, 1938 in Wickenburg, AZ. She was a 1956 graduate of Antioch, CA High School and resided in California, Arizona, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee throughout her life. She began a 30 year career at Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Phoenix, AZ as a cord board Operator and worked her way up to an Outside Plant Engineer at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Kansas City, Missouri (GO CHIEFS!), ultimately retiring in 1993. She then worked as a travel agent which fed her desire to travel and enabled her to visit many places in the U.S. and other countries. In addition to being a caring, fun-loving and compassionate mother, Marge enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking for her family and ironing pillowcases. She absolutely loved cats and always had one in her life. Her favorite color was red and she loved eating a good steak, lobster tail, shrimp and anything sweet especially Hershey with Almond candy bars. Taking after her Grandfather Ashcraft who retired from Union Pacific Railroad, Marge and her Uncle Vincent enjoyed many years of U.P. steam train excursions throughout the United States, with the 3985 and 844 being her favorite locomotives. Marge was an avid reader, news and world events junkie and held strong passionate political views. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sisters Barbara Lynch and Frances Taylor and is affectionately known by her nieces and nephews as “Aunt Maggie”. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law Wendi and Markie Hinson, her granddaughters and their husbands Anna and Dan Briem and Laura Hinson and Alex Rhodes, many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also missed by her closest and dearest friends Helen Workman of Meridian, ID, Verna Kent of Doddridge, AR and Eileen Greenaway of Mesa, AZ. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. As Marge would say in farewell: “If you can’t be decent…be sanitary!”
